Labels for handmade soap and candles

Small soap and candle makers hit the same recurring problem: the label looks perfect at packing and bad two weeks later on the shelf or in the customer's bathroom. The cause is almost always the wrong combination of stock, adhesive and finish for the real use environment.

Handmade soap: humidity and oils

Soap lives in the bathroom, so the label lives in steam. Uncoated paper absorbs moisture and curls, while essential oils in the formula migrate through the fibre and leave translucent stains. For bands and labels applied directly on soap we use white PP film or laminated paper with a humidity-resistant permanent adhesive.

Candles: heat and wax

• The label on a glass jar heats up while the candle burns: the adhesive must be heat-resistant or it migrates at the edges.
• On the base, the safety label (warnings, burn time) is mandatory for EU sale and must stay legible through the product's life.
• Spilled wax soaks into uncoated paper. Film or lamination solves it.
• Metallic effects work well here, but hot foil on the hottest zone needs a test before the full run.

Essential oils: the harshest test

Citrus and mint oils dissolve many inks and soften weak adhesives. If the product is handled with oily hands or drips down the bottle, lamination isn't optional. The combination that holds: PP or PP film, digital LED print, matte or gloss lamination across the full surface.

What we ask in the brief

• Container type: glass jar, tube, PET bottle, wrapping paper.
• Whether the product contains essential oils and at roughly what concentration.
• Whether the label sits on the area that heats up.
• Mandatory copy: INCI ingredients, warnings, batch, burn time.
• Whether you want a natural look (kraft) or maximum protection (film).
