Roll labels vs sheet labels: how to choose

We produce labels on roll, and that isn't a workshop preference but a consequence of how labels get applied in real production. The roll feeds an automatic or semi-automatic applicator and keeps the label order. Sheets make sense in other contexts, explained below.

When roll is the right choice

• You have an automatic or semi-automatic applicator: roll is the only compatible format.
• You apply by hand but at volume: peeling from a roll is several times faster than from a sheet.
• You need controlled order: numbering, serialisation, unique per-piece codes.
• Compact storage: a roll takes far less space than the equivalent stack of sheets.

When sheets make sense

• Very small quantities applied occasionally, with no production line.
• Office labels printed in-house on a laser printer.
• Design prototypes and samples, where speed doesn't matter.

What you configure on a roll

• Winding direction, per your applicator manual.
• Core diameter: usually 40 or 76 mm.
• Maximum outer roll diameter, limited by the applicator.
• Labels per roll and the gap between them.
• Whether multiple SKUs go on separate rolls or grouped.

What matters with multiple SKUs

With ten product variants the real question isn't roll or sheet, it's how many separate rolls you want and how we label them so the line doesn't mix them up. By default each SKU ships on its own roll with an identification label: name, code, quantity, winding direction.
